Our New Website goes Live!

As you will already have gathered, Tung Sing has a new Web Site (this is it!)

The site is managed internally, so everything should be much more up to date than previously. It's still in its infancy, though, and we would welcome any suggestions on how it can be improved and expanded. If you have any thoughts, please Link contact us

Tung Sing Housing Association
welcomes a Community Health
Trainer

Community Health Trainer, Khadija Khan, has recently started work at Tung Sing, funded through the Primary Care Trust. Khadija will offer tailored help, motivation and support to residents who want help in adopting healthier lifestyles. She will help people to set goals by developing personal health plans and give practical support and encouragement to carry out those plans and identify solutions to the barriers they may face

People wanting to take advantage of this free service can contact Khadija directly on 0161 234 0260. Referrals can also come from family members, friends, other Housing Associations or Voluntary and Community groups

Mark Nesbitt, Head of the Equality and Diversity Unit said “Community Health Trainers share the organisation’s commitment of empowering and supporting local residents. Having a Community Health Trainer within Tung Sing gives our residents and the wider community a service which I feel will be very beneficial.”

Tung Sing is delighted to be amongst the first Housing Associations in the country to offer this service

Local residents visit Johnnie Johnson Housing Trust Sheltered schemes

In May, Tung Sing staff took a group of residents interested in sheltered housing to visit a number of Johnnie Johnson Housing Trust schemes. Some were people from our waiting list, some were current tenants and their friends, whilst others were people who had seen our posters advertising the event in Chinatown

Tung Sing runs a floating support service where housing related help (provided by Edmond Chan), is given to Chinese residents living in JJHT sheltered schemes for 2 years after they move in. The open day event helped raise the profile of the service and also gave potential applicants the chance to have a good look around the schemes and meet the residents who live there

Manchester Neighbours Day 2007

Following the success of Manchester Neighbour’s Day 2006, this year six streets have joined in the celebration, with support from the Equality and Diversity Unit

Kent Court

The Waste and Recycling Team from Manchester City Council spoke to the residents about things to look out for when recycling waste. Ms Yen Tan from Min Quan and two students from Hong Kong (Vincy So and Esther Wong) also visited our residents and chatted with them. Food and drink were in plentiful supply and a great day was had by all

Cheetwood – Dalmain Close, Lok Fu Gardens, Sandering Drive, Steeple Close

In true neighbourhood spirit, residents prepared food and organised a barbecue for all their neighbours. With blue skies and sunny weather, it was an ideal occasion to celebrate and get to know the neighbours better. The Fire Service and Police Community Support Officers came along to give advice, and Councillors Khan, Pagel and Hassan visited. And we know the children certainly enjoyed it, as they were all jumping up and down on the bouncy castles from start to finish!

Morborne Close

Residents and nearby neighbours enjoyed Chinese food, and listened to advice from the Fire Service about home fire safety and how to report an emergency with minimal English. Many thanks to the Manchester City Council, who was the main funder of the celebration, as well as Wai Yin Chinese Women Society who kindly provided tables and chairs
